Yeah I noticed that Burnsy, rather than run with him it looked like he tried to pull him back. Weird.

Other than that he played pretty well

He did ok, but was abysmal when "tracking" Raul Jimenez when he tripped over his own feet in front of goal.

Re: Fabian Balbuena Signed
Did ok Saturday, I do think he gets caught ball watching though and often gets dragged to the ball rather than keeping his position. This is also a problem with Ogbonna was well so don't think we sill see much more of them playing together,

How did he have Antonio in front of him when he was on the wing?

I thought he had a good game on Saturday, i cant remember him missing a tackle, despite having Antonio in front of him.

Funny how many people say Masuaku can’t defend. He has made the most tackles of any defender in all 3 matches.

Re: Fabian Balbuena Signed
The first goal was really Wilshere's fault in my opinion. Masuaku rightly closed the ball and Wilshere stopped tracking the runner (Bellerin) who received the pass that took Masuaku out.

I actually think Cresswell is more effective going forward than Masuaku so would prefer him in the side (just look at his assists record), but Masuaku's defending hasn't been bad at all this season.

Re: Fabian Balbuena Signed
Impossible?
With a back 3 if the danger is on that side Masuaku can engage one and the left sided centre back fills that gap behind him while the other two cover the centre.
We have two natural wing backs in Fredericks and Masuaku and a player in Rice who has the ability on the ball to be that centre player in a back 3.
It’s glaringly obvious that’s what suits our players especially playing Anderson as a 10 behind Arnie as a sole striker.

>>> Where was Masuaku for Arsenal’s first goal?

Nearly impossible to defend a 2 on 1 there - I put no blame on him at all for that. I'm beginning to think the biggest problem with us is lack of defending from the front.

Re: Fabian Balbuena Signed
Masuaku has made some good tackles and interceptions, but he still takes risks in the wrong areas of the pitch.

I'd agree he's improved defensively, but he needed to, and has some way to go.

As a left back?
Where was he for Arsenal’s first goal.
We are too open down the sides which pulls the centre halves out of position.

Re: Fabian Balbuena Signed
Balbuena still looking shaky, hopefully he is still improving getting into the English game. Diop showed promise.

Sven, go and man watch Masuaku in these 3 opening games he is defending well, try living in the present not the past.

Re: Fabian Balbuena Signed
For a team that doesn’t control midfield possession I’d challenge ANY centre half to play in a two with wing backs.
Particularly one like Arthur who has no idea how to defend as a left back
I’d be happy to see Rice as the centre of a back 3 with Balbuena and Diop being able to step out into midfield where possible.

Re: Fabian Balbuena Signed
So far he looks ok in dispatches to me, but gets caught flat footed by the pace of the games at time.

Watching Diop yesterday he has to be first choice. Has all the tools.

Rice is a conundrum now. Was lined up for CM, and not sure about him in a 2 at the back as he had a ricket in him last year, but did also play very well. Agree Ogbonna not good in a 2.

Think I'd stick with Balbuena and hope he adjusts, Diop alongside, and stiffen midfield with Rice alongside Sanchez and Wilshere...then just play 2 of Snodgrass, Yarmalenko, Anderson and Antonio.

Re: Fabian Balbuena Signed
Obviously overall the defence has been so cruelly exposed, it's really hard to talk positively about individuals. I think he looks a first team player who should grow into the role. In a poor performance vs Bournemouth he was one of our best players. His best attribute seems to be his ability to step forward and win the ball early - it's when that doesn't work out that we need to be ready to cover.

Re: Fabian Balbuena Signed
How do people rate him so far? I think that despite our awful defensive showings so far, Balbuena has been pretty good and quietly gone about his business well - seems to be first choice centre half now. The issue is who to play alongside him, Diop is raw potential, Ogbonna can't play in a back 4 with attacking full backs, Reid is a non-starter, leaving only Rice...that £22m may look good a few years down the line, but unfortunately we really weren't in the position to be signing £20m potential, Collins & Kouyate were both first teamers who don't appear to have been replaced.

Saw on the OS thing they did on him, one of his favourite songs is Chop Suey by System of a Down.

Very metal of him.

Actually just made me chuckle because he must have been real young when it came out.

I can’t be Swiss, as I’ve unfortunately never shagged any card carrying super models, though I did fuck up some airfix models as a kid, but that’s as far as it went.

Not sure if Harold counts as a bite or not, Swiss, but still a fine piece of angling all round, :)
